Chat with Um Bot

Um Bot is Um Out’s assistant inside the Premiere Pro panel. Ask it about your open project (“summarize this interview,” “suggest chapters”), or tell it what to clean up. It’s a new capability and still in beta.

Um Bot never edits your timeline on its own. When you ask for an edit, it opens Um Out’s normal review screen so you approve every change first, exactly like running a tool by hand.

What Um Bot can do today

  • Answer questions about your project from the open sequence, its clips, and the transcript when one is available. It won’t invent clip names or timings.
  • Start the reviewed tools for you (removing silences, cleaning filler words, and creating captions), then hand you the review to approve.

Broader timeline actions (adding titles, organizing bins, and more) are being added one at a time as they pass Um Out’s review-and-verify checks. Um Bot will say when something isn’t available yet rather than pretend it did it.

Which AI answers: two ways

Your own key (BYOK)

On the Local and Plus plans you can connect your own OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google Gemini key. The key is stored by the local companion in your operating system’s credential vault, never in the panel or an Um Out account. See Use your own API key for setup.

Hosted Um Bot

Hosted Um Bot runs on Um Out’s servers so you don’t manage a key. Requests are sent to Um Out’s AI gateway with your account’s entitlement; your media is never uploaded, only a short text summary of the project and transcript needed to answer. Hosted Um Bot is rolling out; until it’s switched on for your build, use your own key.

Start chatting

  1. Open the Um Out panel in Premiere and choose Ask Um Bot.
  2. For your own key, add it once in Settings → AI assistant: choose the provider, name the model, paste the key, and press Save.
  3. Type a question or a request in Message Um Bot and send.
  4. If Um Bot proposes an edit, it opens the review. Approve the cuts you want, then apply; one Undo reverses everything.

Privacy

  • Your video and audio files are never uploaded by Um Bot.
  • With your own key, the project summary goes only to the provider you chose.
  • With hosted Um Bot, the project summary goes to Um Out’s gateway, which forwards it to the model on your behalf. It is disclosed here and used only to answer your message.
